Every wedding I photograph has some things that stick in my mind long after the event. For Becky and Matt’s wedding it will be polystyrene aeroplanes, early 90’s house music (provided by the brilliant DJs Fats and Small) and champagne with Baileys!
Becky and Matt married at the very picturesque St Margaret’s Church in Great Barr on the outskirts of Birmingham. The church holds special memories for the groom as he was a choirboy there in his younger years. After the ceremony the wedding party headed over to Middleton Hall near Tamworth in Staffordshire for the wedding breakfast and evening reception.
Middleton Hall is an incredibly old building, parts of which date back to 1285, with more “recent” additions being made in the Tudor era, 1715 and 1824. The grounds of the hall provided some great locations for photos, especially in the lovely walled garden where Becky and Matt held their drinks reception upon the arrival of their guests from the church.
It was my first time at Middleton Hall and I have to say how brilliant and friendly all of the staff were. They couldn’t do enough, not only for the bride and groom, but also for me and the other people involved in making Becky and Matt’s wedding day special. Becky Pugh, Middleton Hall’s wedding co-ordinator, and her team did a great job.
The bride wore a Morrie Lee dress from Kissxx Bridal Boutique in Lichfield whilst the groomsmen were dressed in morning suits from Slaters. It was a scorching hot day but they didn’t have to worry about their bouquets, corsages and table decorations wilting as Becky and Matt hand-made them all themselves using origami. The wedding cake, which reflected the bride and groom’s love of travel, was supplied by Slice of Heaven, Tamworth. I also have to mention Matthew Hernandez, a fantastically talented flamenco guitarist, who played during the welcome drinks in the walled garden and during the wedding breakfast. I’d also like to say a big thank you to Jo from Jo Grumett Photogrpahy who second shot with me. It was great to have her on board after shooting solo so far this year.
