Three weeks ago, I was in the tiny Oxfordshire village of Adderbury for Sarah and Lee’s wedding at St Mary’s Church and Dovecote Barn at Bo Peep Farm. As seems to be the norm this “summer” we had blistering sunshine, torrential rain and howling wind, sometimes all three at the same time!

I met with Sarah and her bridesmaids at the summer house at Firs Hill House on the outskirts of the village of Bloxham. The summer house was the ideal spot for bridal preparations with lots of natural light flooding into the room. Sarah was joined by her beautiful twin daughters, Esme and Evie, who enjoyed making the most of the makeup and ensuring the wedding photographer looked his best with an application of nail varnish and hair spray! The real bridal makeup was done by Leanne O’Neil and hair styling by Rebel Hair Banbury.

As the time for the ceremony approached sarah slipped into her Venus wedding dress which was from Adore Brides in Chelmsford, she accompanied this with a stunning Greek inspired headpiece from Lace and Favour. The three bridesmaids, who are also Sarah’s sisters, wore matching pale pink Dessy Group dresses which were from Shakespeare in Love. As the bridal party prepared to depart for the church in their vintage 1930 Rolls Royce Landaulette, hired from The Wedding Barn, I dashed over to Adderbury village to meet with the groom at The Bell Inn.

The Bell is only a minutes’ walk from St Mary’s Church so once the groomsmen had quaffed their drinks it was only a short hop to the ceremony before the bride arrived. St Mary’s is a very impressive and imposing church which has a history dating back to Saxon times. Once the ceremony was completed the bride, groom and their twin daughter jumped into the vintage Rolls to make their way over to the reception at Dovecote Barn.

Dovecote Barn is an 18th Century Grade II listed building that is full of character, features exposed brickwork and is lined with oak beams. As the guests arrived for the drinks reception the sun made way for a series of torrential downpours which sent all but the brave (or the smoking!) heading for the bar in the marquee adjoining the barn. Following the wedding breakfast, the barn was then prepared for the evening party where Brighton band The Sonics played two blistering sets which kept the dancefloor jumping until the small hours. Here’s a few pictures from Sarah and Lee’s Oxfordshire wedding . . .
