There are weddings, there are epic weddings, then there’s Amy and Jonny’s wedding! We had a heady mix of pig racing and Ferraris, sizzling street food and some sizzling hot weather, a brilliant band and a rapping bridesmaid, oh, and of course . . . a dashing groom and a beautiful bride. What more could you want from a terrific Torbay wedding?

The day started bright and early for the bridal party who met at Amy’s house for the preparations. The girls did their own makeup whilst Amy’s friend Jennifer Alden was kept busy with all things hair. Meanwhile Callie, Amy’s daughter, was on hand to ensure there was just enough chaos sprinkled throughout the proceedings to keep everyone on their toes.

Down the road, at the bride and groom’s friends house, Jonny and the groomsmen were readying themselves for the day ahead . . . mainly with the aid of a can or 2 of Brewdog’s finest! If Callie was providing chaos for the bridal party then Rory and Freddie ensured there was double trouble on hand for the groom prep. As the time for the ceremony drew closer Jonny and his groomsmen donned their super stylish blue three piece suits which were from Marc Darcy. Whilst back up the road the bridesmaids put on their matching dresses, which were from House of Fraser, whilst Amy eased into her stunning Stella York wedding dress which was from Frilly Frocks of Barnstaple. With everyone looking their best they all made their way to Torbay Party Barn where the wedding was to be held.

The ceremony was a wonderful affair, held in front of Amy and Jonny’s closest friends and family. There was plenty of love on display . . . and a few tears too! With the rings exchanged and the legal formalities completed everyone headed outside into the blazing sunshine to shower the new Mr & Mrs Finnis with confetti before enjoying the drinks reception. Once the drinks were quaffed it was then back into the barn for the wedding breakfast. The food was provided by the kitchen wizards from Four Elements Street Food, who somehow managed to cook up an incredible selection of street food for around 100 people from the confines of their horsebox trailer. With the magnificent food munched there was time for the speeches before the wedding guests were introduced to the wild and wacky world of pig racing! The pigs along with the obligatory pig wrangler were curtesy of Ady Byng’s Gameshow Roadshow. These pigs were not your full size prime porker but were a super special swine specific for the purpose. You’re going to have to check out the pictures below to see these crazy beasts in action.

With our porcine friends packed away I took Amy and Jonny off for a quick portrait session, at the end of which we were joined by a stunning white Ferrari curtesy of the boys at Rev Comps (check out their amazing weekly draws on their website). Jonny got to drive the pristine mean machine back to the reception, depositing his bride just in time for the cutting of the wedding cake. This was swiftly followed by one of the most epic first dances I’ve witnessed, giving Amy the chance to show off her dancing skills with some very smooth moves. Jonny did a sterling job too, keeping pace with his bride, even going in for a spinning bird lift!

Then the dancefloor opened up for everyone else to join in as Joey and the Lips, the nation’s funkiest 10 piece band, took to the stage. Although they’re a normally a 10 piece band they were down to just 9 members for most of the evening as their front man / vocalist had just got married! The band played a blistering set of dance, funk and disco tunes which literally blew the roof off of the barn and had everyone throwing some serious shapes. We all knew that it wouldn’t be too long before the band were back to a 10 piece as Jonny, the groom, jumped up on stage to belt out a few numbers with his bandmates before returning to his bride on the dancefloor. For the evening reception food was supplied by the incredible il Cornicione, who make what has to be the finest authentic pizza that you can get this side of Naples.

Before I sign off I must say a massive thanks to Amy and Jonny for having me along as their Torbay wedding photographer and allowing me to capture their most epic of weddings. The whole day was a real DIY affair with lots of home made / hand made additions. Amy did the flowers herself (you should definitely check out her handmade hair accessories at Scrunchy Mumma), Amy’s Auntie Maureen made the wedding cake, whilst a whole band of family spent the week prior to the wedding dressing the venue. It was a gargantuan effort from all those involved but it was 100% worth it to pull off this amazing day.
