Suzie and Ben currently live over the water in Ireland but met whilst studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. And it was to Birmingham which they returned for their wonderful wedding, which was held at The Old Library in Digbeth last summer.

I met with Suzie and her bridesmaids at the Aparthotel Adagio Birmingham City Centre which was only a short hop from the wedding venue. The bridal preparations were underway with Sarah from Ambersgrove Hair Boutique of Shifnal busy on coiffuring duties. As the ceremony time approached Suzie donned her bespoke Jill Jones wedding dress which was accompanied by some incredibly eye catching blue shoes (the “something blue” option was definitely ticked off for this wedding!). Meanwhile her bridesmaids wore matching blue dresses which were from David’s Bridal.

The ceremony took place at The Old Library, adjacent to The Custard Factory, in the heart of Digbeth. The Old Library is a stunning location for a wedding, featuring a grand and imposing central space. The Victorian era library was originally built in 1866 and remained in use until the second world war forced its closure 1940. It then remained abandoned until the redevelopment of the Custard Factory and Zellig in the 1990’s. It has since been lovingly restored and is now one of the areas more unique wedding and event spaces.

Suzie was walked down the aisle in the arm of her very proud father to be met by Ben, who looked very dapper in his purple suit which was from Guy Clothing in Tullamore. With the vows completed and the rings exchanged everyone made their way over to the adjacent Nomad bar for the drinks reception and canapés whist the Old Library was prepared for the wedding breakfast.

The wedding breakfast was a stunning three course affair created by the kitchen wizards at Aretsi Event Catering. There was a Monopoly theme to the wedding day and each guest was presented with a “chance” envelope containing their own chance to win big with a scratch card. With the food scoffed, drinks quaffed and speeches completed the dancefloor of The Old Library was then readied for the evening reception. The wedding band Smoke & Mirrors played two blinding sets of music which kept the dancefloor rocking to the small hours. Shapes were thrown, air guitars were thrashed and a good time was had by all.

Before I sign off I must say a massive thank you to Suzie and Ben for having me along as their The Old Library Wedding Photographer. It was a real privelige and a pleasure to have been able to spend your wedding with you and to capture the events and emotions of the day. Here’s 50 images to give you a sneak peek into Suzie and Ben’s epic Old Library wedding . . .
