At the end of June I had the huge pleasure to photograph Pete and Joe’s sizzling summer wedding at The West Mill in Derby on what was the hottest day of the year so far. It was my first time at The West Mill and it’s a venue with so much character that I can’t wait to return. The venue is a super-cool converted Georgian era former cotton spinning mill. The Grade II listed building was originally constructed in the early 1820’s and is located on the banks of the river Derwent in the village of Darley Abbey on the outskirts of Derby city centre.
The ceremony took place in the Cotton Quarter Room on the top floor of the mill. This unique space, with its cast iron ceiling, makes for a stunning backdrop for any wedding. The room looked amazing and had been beautifully decorated by Nadia Di Tullio Flowers. There were readings, rings and few tears too. With the legal formalities completed everyone headed out into the sunshine of the South Courtyard to shower the newly married couple with confetti before starting the drinks reception.
With the drinks quaffed the guests then headed back into the mill for the wedding breakfast. This was in the form of a host a roast where each table was ceremonially presented with a sirloin of beef. Chef’s hats and aprons were donned before the nominated carver on each table served up the wedding breakfast.
For the evening reception Apollo Soul took over on the first floor Spinning Room bar and absolutely smashed the dancefloor. I saw them last at Charlotte and Tom’s wedding at Walton Hall a couple of months ago and can confirm that these guys always deliver. They played two stunning sets of recent chart hits and classics from the past, ensuring that the dancefloor remained packed all night. The evening ended with a DJ/Sax & Percussion set where the guests were treated to some Ibiza style dancefloor hits. With legs worn out from dancing everyone then headed outside to give Pete and Joe a fine send off with a sparkler exit.
